September 17, 2024 - Officials at Mary Persons High School were alerted by Monroe County Sheriff’s Office regarding a possible school threat made via Snapchat. The post did not mention Mary Persons High School by name. The threat was allegedly made by a 17 year old Mary Persons female student. On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, a Monroe County Middle School staff member accidentally set off a Centegix lockdown at MCMS and TG Scott Elementary School. No students were in danger at any time. The staff member was attempting to call for help using a staff alert for a medical emergency, but triggered the Code Red lockdown by pressing the alert button too many times. Because the two campuses are so close together, when one school locks down, the other is immediately locked down for student safety. Again, no students were in any danger.
The Centegix incident response system is new to Monroe County, and will increase the safety of our students, staff, and visitors. We will continue training with our staff to ensure the proper alerts are issued in the future. If you have any questions, please contact administration at TG Scott Elementary, Monroe County Middle School, or Monroe County Schools central office.

Portia Lyons, nutrition manager at K.B. Sutton Elementary, finds innovative new ways to meet the needs of her students. A share cart reduces hunger and food waste by keeping unopened foods that would otherwise be thrown away. Not only does the cart teach students not to throw away perfectly good food, but they’re learning that it can help someone in need. #LearnGrowSucceed #CommittedToExcellence
