The event starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Monroe County Fine Arts Center. This fundraiser, held by the MPHS Art Club, raises money for our Monroe County Backpack Buddies to help fight hunger in our community. Tickets are $20 at the door. Attention elementary & middle school parents: you are invited to a Thanksgiving Meal at your child's school. The menu includes turkey & dressing with gravy, cranberry sauce, sweet potato soufflé, southern style green beans, and banana pudding. The cost is $5 per adult.
To make sure we have enough for all, you must RSVP to this event. Your child should have a form in his/her book bag for you to fill out and send back with your payment. The deadline for returning the Thanksgiving Meal form will be November 15th.

October 1, 2024 - Monroe County Middle School officials discovered a student was in possession of an Airsoft gun on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. This investigation is ongoing. Early indications are that the Airsoft gun was in a student’s waistband, and the investigation revealed that it was shown to other students. At the time, it appeared to be a real weapon. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is involved in the investigation. The student will remain off campus pending the investigation and a disciplinary review. No students or staff were harmed in the incident.
October 1, 2024 - City of Forsyth officials have advised that Martin Luther King Jr. Drive will be closed between West Main Street and Cabiness Avenue due to a water main break for an indeterminate amount of time. MLK Jr. Drive is open for local traffic only between Cabiness Avenue and Sharp Street. Expect delays during dismissal at Hubbard Elementary School. Please plan accordingly as you travel to Hubbard Elementary School and the Boys and Girls Club to pick up your children this afternoon.
Tonight’s Mary Persons High School Homecoming football game versus Upson-Lee High School will go on as scheduled. Monroe County Schools administrators made this decision following discussions with emergency management officials, as well as with Upson-Lee HS administration. Gates open at 6:15 p.m. and the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen will take place at 7 p.m. prior to kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
Tomorrow night’s Homecoming Dance will also go on as scheduled. The dance will take place at Mary Persons High School from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Monroe County Schools administration will continue to monitor Hurricane Helene as it approaches Central Georgia. Administrators will stay in contact with Monroe County EMA and the National Weather Service to determine whether Friday night’s 7:30pm Homecoming Game can be played as scheduled. A decision on the game will be made after the storm has moved through Monroe County and any damage has been assessed. Some factors to consider include power outages, road blockages and flooding in both communities. We will announce our decision via email, text message and social media posts. It will also be posted on our website and on the Monroe County Schools App.

Following a second briefing with the National Weather Service, Monroe County Schools is announcing the following schedule adjustments for the rest of the week. We will operate under an abbreviated schedule on Thursday, September 26, 2024. All schools will dismiss at 12:30 pm. All after-school activities on Thursday, September 26 have been canceled, including the MPHS Homecoming Parade. Monroe County Schools will be closed to all students and staff on Friday, September 27, 2024. We will assess the situation following the storm and make a decision regarding the Homecoming football game scheduled for 7:30 pm Friday night.
Monroe County is under a Tropical Storm Watch and a Flood Watch. On the current track, the National Weather Service says our biggest threat is heavy rain, possible flooding, strong winds, and isolated tornadoes.

On the current track, the National Weather Service says our biggest threat is heavy rain, possible flooding, and strong winds. We will continue to monitor the storm’s projected path and will update you as it gets closer.
