On Friday, the Georgia Department of Education released school district performance for the 2021-2022 Georgia Milestones assessments. Monroe County Schools is pleased to report that our students continue to perform at a high level in the classroom each day and on the state’s yearly content assessments. These assessments are given to students in 19 content areas across grades 3-12 to monitor student mastery of the Georgia Standards of Excellence in the core areas of reading, ELA, math, science, and social studies.

When compared against the state’s average score in each tested area for students achieving developing or higher on the Georgia Milestones, Monroe County students exceeded the state average in all 19 tested areas this past year.

Monroe County Schools led the Middle Georgia Regional Educational Service Agency (MGRESA) school districts in student performance (scoring developing or higher) in 18 of 19 tested content areas. MGRESA districts include Bibb, Crawford, Houston, Jasper, Jones, Monroe, Peach, and Twiggs counties. Students in Monroe County continue to perform at a high level across all content areas.

Dr. Mike Hickman, Superintendent, stated, “the continued success of our students on the Georgia Milestones assessment is a testament to the work our teachers and instructional leaders are doing each day to ensure that curriculum, assessment, and instruction are aligned and monitored at all grade levels. Our teachers’ preparation and development of lessons that are engaging, rigorous, and relevant are really paying dividends for our students. We are extremely proud of their work.”

According to Schooldigger.com -- an online site that ranks schools and districts based on state test scores across all grade levels -- the Monroe County School District improved from 2020-2021, up one spot last year to 21st in the state out of 198 school districts in Georgia.
