Graduation rate with cap and diploma

Mary Persons High School is proud to announce the 2024 graduation cohort rate of 93.1%.

“The graduation rate is one of the strongest data points to evaluate public education in Georgia,” stated Superintendent Dr. Jim Finch. “We are proud of the work of our students, teachers, administrators, staff, and parents in attaining yet another rate that is not only above the state average but also above 90% for the fifth consecutive year.  It is important to note that education matters in Monroe County. Our intent is to continue to provide a quality educational experience that results in a graduation rate that our community can be proud of.”

Georgia’s high-school graduation rate increased in 2024, rising to 85.4% – an all-time high since the state began using the adjusted cohort calculation now required by federal law, and slightly up from 84.4% in 2023. Georgia’s graduation rate has increased by 15.7 percentage points since 2012.  While all states use the same calculation, each state sets its own requirements for students to earn a regular high school diploma. Georgia has some of the highest requirements in the nation for students to graduate with a regular diploma.

“Congratulations to Monroe County Schools! This graduation rate is a result of the combined effort of so many individuals. We are proud to be in a community that shares in our vision of “Learn. Grow. Succeed.” All Monroe County staff members, educators, district leaders, all members of the Board of Education, and parents can celebrate this accomplishment together because they have all played a part in supporting our students in achieving this goal. Mary Persons High School will remain committed to providing an environment where students can be successful and become proud MP alumni! “  said Tammy Marion, principal at Mary Persons High School.
