Ava Gideon recommends ThornHill by Pam Smy 7th grader, Ava Gideon, recommends this book to her friends for a few reasons. This book at first didn't really spike her interest, but she saw that it had pictures & decided it would probably be easy and a lot of points toward her AR goal. However, she says, "listen to me when I tell you this book is so much more." This book is about children in an orphanage with the main character, Mary, writing in her diary explaining everything about herself and what is happening at the orphanage. She is bullied by another girl in the orphanage and does do some very bad things. Then the ending is completely unexpected. There's also a large section of pictures with no words."Oh, and by the way, the pictures and the story don't go together. The story is in 1982, and the pictures are 2017." The pictures seem to be looking into the future but are still connected to the orphanage. "While reading, everything will start to make sense, but if you don't pay attention when reading, you'll get lost." ThornHill can be described as a type of horror, drama and has definitely become one of her favorites. Ava gives this book a 5 out of 5!
