The MP SwimDogs are again competing at the GHSA State Swimming Championships at Georgia Tech. This is year two of the swim team and the second-year swimmers have qualified both individually and on relays.
For the girl's team, Maela McKallip is the top qualifier with a total of six individual events. Next, Campbell Atkinson qualified in five individual events followed by Abbey Stembridge who qualified in two individual events, and Alanna Wood in one individual event. All four of these ladies are also the relay team members who swam state qualifying times in all three relay events.
Also, a member of the girl's state team is Avery Morris. Morris is the designated relay alternate and the State Team Manager.
GHSA rules limit the number of events in which a swimmer may compete; therefore, the girls will swim up to two individual events and only two relays.
Isaac McKallip is the only male to qualify this year. He was able to qualify in three individual events; however, he is only allowed to compete in two. This is the second year he has qualified to compete in the State Championships.
The team will compete, Wednesday, February 7, in the preliminary races. Those placing in the top twenty will swim again this evening in finals. It looks to be quite promising that all SwimDogs will have the opportunity to compete in finals that evening.
